UIL Area Contest Saturday, April 6 at Midway PAC

Temple High School's UIL team will compete in the 2019 Area (Districts 9-12) UIL One-Act Play competition on Saturday, April 6 at the Midway Performing Arts Center, 800 Hewitt Drive, Hewitt, TX 76643. There are now only 48 schools left in the 6A contest. Admission will be $5 per person. Audience members may enter and exit only between shows. Shows run back-to-back. Competition order and estimated performance times for Saturday are:
    (1) 12:00 p.m. McKinney High — Sweet Nothing in My Ear
    (2) 12:50 p.m. Rockwall Heath High — Mariner
    (3) 1:40 p.m. JJ Pearce High (Richardson) — Bob: A Life in Five Acts
    (4) 2:30 p.m. Wylie High — The Book of Will
    (5) 3:20 p.m. Longview High — One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
    (6) 4:10 p.m. Temple High — Baby with the Bathwater
Three of the six schools will advance to the Region Contest, which will be Saturday, April 13, at University High School in Waco. Temple's official rehearsal time is Saturday morning from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m.

Critic judges include Cindy SoRelle, Christy Collard, Michael Cooper. Glenn Price is serving as contest manager.

Temple's entry, Baby with the Bathwater by Christopher Durang, begins as Helen (Sierra Amalbert) and John (Seth Little) gaze proudly at their new offspring, a bit disappointed that is doesn't speak English and they are too polite to check its sex. So they decide that the child is a girl and name it Daisy — which leads to all manner of future emotional and personality problems when it turns out that Daisy (Anthony Williamson) is actually a boy. The play charts the saga of Daisy's struggle to establish his identity and introduces us to the many zany characters he meets along the way. Durang is an American playwright known for works of outrageous and often absurd comedy.

Last year, Temple's entry (On the Verge)  placed 4th in the state, out of over 250 5A schools. This year, Temple is in the 6A classification.
